Winner Sony Alpha Female Award


The results are in! The Sony World Photography Awards have announced this year's winners.

We have a female winner for the Student Photographer of the Year Award, Ioanna Sakellaraki from Greece who is currently studying at the Royal College of Art, London. Her series of night-time images of solar panels, wind turbines and battery farms that are used to power the island of Tilos - the first Walden in the Mediterranean to run on renewable energy can be seen in her Winners Gallery.

The inaugural ‘Alpha Female Award’.

This new award aims to “celebrate the imaginative and inspiring photographic work currently created by female photographers around the world.”

The shortlist was announced a month ago and today the winner was revealed. Here's a few of our favourites, you can find the full shortlist images on the Alpha Universe site.

The Winning Image by Lily Dawson, Punshon

Winner, Sony Alpha Female Award 2020Winner: Lily Dawson-Punshon, United Kingdom. 


Lily Dawson-Punshon winning image which was picked from entries to the Open category - was inspired by historical paintings, her portrait, in particular, she calls “an evolutionary depiction of Johannes Vermeer’s ‘Girl with the Pearl Earring’,” with a current-day twist.

She will receive a range of Sony digital imaging equipment which will help her as she begins a course in Fashion Photography
